Meet the Instructors

Matthew Thwing:
Growing up, there was a camera available somewhere in the house at all times. My dad didn’t always appreciate me picking it up but it was a normal part of life for him to be pointing it at us at any given point during adolescence. I never really appreciated the little here and there moments he captured as I went about just being a kid. As I’ve gotten older I’ve come to realize just how important those moments are. First steps, first dances, and last breathes are sometimes all we have to help us remember those split seconds that seemed so insignificant in the moment. The more time I spend behind the camera the more I realize the responsibility of what I do. It inspires me and encourages me to constantly work and learn to get better at being a photographer, and a human being. I didn’t always feel this way and for a long time took my passion for photography for granted. I have, however, come to realize the passion I have always known I’ve had for people was specifically designed to enable me to create images that have power and meaning. I’ve had a lot of jobs prior to becoming a professional photographer. But since becoming a professional photographer, I have a life.
